Ballet is a kind of spectacular dance, also called theatrical dance because it is intended to be viewed by an audience.The dancers take personal satisfaction in creating movements and showing-off their dancing skills.The ballerina is the female lead dancer or star dancer.The danseur is the male lead dancer and the chorus of dancers is called corps de ballet.Ballet dancing requires discipline of body,head,legs,arms,hands and feet.Usually the female dancer steps on her toes to gain lightness and graceful flowing movement while the male jumps and turns in the air frequently lifting his partner into the air.The movements of the dancers show expressions of beauty of line,grace and purity expression.(wikipedia)
In our country the very known ballet dancer is Lisa Macuja-Elizalde. Macuja has received numerous citations in recognition of her contribution to art, culture and society. These include President Vladmir Putin’s The Order of International Friendship (Russia, 2001), Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (USA, 1997), The Outstanding Young Filipino Nation’s Service (1989) and the House of Diaghilev’s Special Prize for Artistry (Russia, 1992). She is now the artistic director of Ballet Manila. And there are also some who were sucessful like her: Tony Gonzales,Anne Villadolid,Maritoni Rufino,Effie Nanas along with male dancers like: Tony Fabella,Eddie Elejar,Nonoy Froilan,Osias Barroso and Conrad Dy-Liacco.
